So long, farewell

Wednesday, January 1st 2014 will be the final episode of Technology Bytes featuring Dwight Silverman as a full time co-host. Dwight is dropping away from his weekly co-host role and will be spending more time with his family. And by “family” we suspect he means his new kittens.

We at Technology Bytes have enjoyed having Dwight as a member of the family and he will be sorely missed. We wish him well in his endeavors and we expect to see him in the studio from time to time to help out when we are short handed.

Dwight has assured us that the monthly Technology Bytes Geek Gatherings are still a priority on his social calendar.

Tune in for the final show and help us give him a proper send-off.

Cosplay
Character costuming – has enjoyed explosive popularity, from science fiction conventions to historic events such as Texas Renaissance Festival to the recent SyFy Network series “Heroes of Cosplay.” Galveston is already home to one of the best historic costuming events, Dickens on the Strand, which has recently included science fiction through the Steampunk movement, a mix of Victorian style with industrial age science fiction elements in the tradition of Jules Verne. Nationally famous cosplayer Ani-Mia is attending, as well as representatives of the Steampunk independent film “Frankenstein’s Monster.” Everyone can join in and a Masquerade Costume Competition will award prizes for the best.

About Space City Con
Space City Con is a pop and fan culture family entertainment expo for all ages, of comics, sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, literature, and art, in the spirit of the Gulf Coast and the greater Houston, Texas, region. Envisioned as a “geek festival with free parking,” it offers the best convention possible for current generations of fans, and instills a love of comics, cosplay, sci-fi and fantasy in the next generations. Space City Con is about “bringing fans together.” Launched in August 2012, Space City Con (
www.spacecitycon.com
), thrilled more than 2,000 fans with its first show. By summer 2013, the convention had grown by a factor of six, filling its Houston-area venue to capacity with more than 11,000 eager fans attending over three days. The Festival’s vendor and exhibit hall grew 50 percent and the number of celebrity guests skyrocketed. On July 31, 2013, organizers provided the celebrity guests for the historic unveiling of the original Star TrekTM series scale prop, the Galileo shuttlecraft, at Space Center Houston, with a VIP dignitary tour of the NASA Johnson Space Center. Space City Con 2013 also received the honor of the world premiere of the completed Lucasfilm-blessed Star WarsTM fan film “The Pink Five Saga,” hosting the international leadership of The 501st Legion professional Star Wars costuming charity organization.

Moving to the Island
Seeing crowds of eager fans at the convention’s summer show in August 2013, organizers immediately sought a larger venue to accommodate the high traffic. Celebrity guest Tracy Scoggins urged organizers to move to her home town, Galveston Island. A magical vacation destination, with a variety of family-friendly events throughout the year, Galveston embraced the concept of a “hometown comic con” and responded in kind with its legendary hospitality. Given a difficult choice between several excellent convention facilities, Space City Con chose Moody Gardens, to offer plenty of free parking for attendees, but most of all, for the unique landscape appeal of the tropical resort and three pyramids, which will attract and amaze a global comic and sci-fi fandom, already booking hotel rooms and headed for Texas.
